The much stronger winds near the strong storms, coupled with a tendency to avoid inversions near storms, mean that windy nights are more common in the cold season. Step 1: Open the Windows Settings menu (use Windows + I keys). These storms have cloud and temperature structures that can often overrule the tendency for inversions to set up at night. Step 4: In the Brightness and color section, turn on the toggle button next to the Night light to turn on the night light feature. Step 3: Now, on the right side, click Display. Step 2: In the left pane of the Settings app, ensure that the System is selected. Late autumn and winter bring the strongest storms of the year to our area. Step 1: Open the Settings app either using Windows + I hotkey or using search. ![]() If there is a low pressure area or storm in the region the winds will blow day or night. Now, make sure that the toggle for Schedule night light option is disabled. As a consequence, once the inversion sets up (after sunset), it is much harder for fast-moving air above the ground to mix down to the surface, where it could appear as a gust of wind.ĭuring the day it is very easy for the air to mix and cause surface gusts. This will open the Device Management window. Type devmgmt.msc on the Run dialog box and hit enter. To do this, first, hold Windows + R keys together to launch the Run application. ![]() Inversions dramatically reduce the amount of mixing that occurs between different vertical layers of the atmosphere. You can also manually update the display driver on your computer to see and fix issues with the Night light. This circumstance leads to the development of what is known as a temperature inversion. The air in close contact with the ground - say in the lowest 300 feet of the atmosphere - then becomes colder than the air above it. Night Shift makes it possible for iPhone owners to warm the color of their displays at night. The wind speed tends to decrease after sunset because at night the surface of the Earth cools much more rapidly than does the air above the surface.Īs a result of this difference in cooling ability, it doesn’t take long for the ground to become colder than the air above it. Why does this effect seem less pronounced in late autumn and winter?Īs it turns out, the answers are somewhat related to one another. Enable Night Shift mode manually on iPhone. Choose to schedule Night Shift, Manually enable it, and make adjustments to the color temperature. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Night Shift. When the sun begins to set, Night Shift can be turned on automatically, so you don't have to worry about manually enabling and. Open Control Center and long-press the Brightness control icon, then tap Night Shift to turn it on or off manually. Your device can use its time and geolocation settings to determine when the sun is setting where you live. Why does the wind speed tend to decrease after sunset? 2. Night Shift is a software feature available on Apple devices that reduces blue light emission. Right-click the Start Menu icon (or press Windows key + X) and select Device Manager on the Quick Access menu.A reader wrote us last week with two questions prompted by careful observation: 1. If you use either of these drivers, visit your PC manufacturer’s website to download a different graphics driver. Naturally, SWSD is caused by a major change in one of your body’s primary natural functions, your circadian rhythm. But if you’re working the night shift, SWSD can wreak havoc on your body. Note: Windows 10 Night Light does not work on devices using a DisplayLink graphic driver or Microsoft’s Basic Display driver. Shift Work Sleep Disorder’s (SWSD) defining characteristics include excessive sleepiness in the evening and insomnia during the day. If the problem persists after trying the recommendations above, update or reinstall your graphics/display drive. Workaround: manually pressing 'Sync' for time makes NL starting as should. If its set to engage at 4:13pm, I can set the time to 4:12pm. Work-around: Select then de-select the Manual 'Turn On Until Sunrise' button. Works in the Sunset phase, but after putting device to sleep overnight, doesn't execute the 'Sunrise' phase to turn off Night Shift. ![]() It does work at sunrise, meaning it disables itself. Night Shift 'Schedule' setting set to 'Sunset to Sunrise'. You may encounter difficulties using Night Light if your computer’s graphic/display driver is outdated, broken, or buggy. Problem: When Night light time approaches, NL doesnt fire. Reboot your computer if Windows 10 Night Light still doesn’t work when you sign back in. Before you restart your device, try signing out of your profile/account and signing back in-press the Windows button, click on your profile icon, and select Sign out. That’ll trigger your computer to obtain accurate date & time information from the Windows Time Server. Afterward, click the Sync now button in the “Synchronize your clock” section. ![]() ![]() ![]() Honestly it's so personal and subjective that you really just have to try different apps and approaches until you find the one that works best. Which of these is your favorite and why? Do you have any good resources for using an app with GTD? I'm really leaning towards OmniFocus, but feel like I'm not using it to it's potential. I'm not a huge fan of the OmniFocus interface, which is really what had me looking at other options in the first place. Not necessary, but still nice.Ī good, fluid UI. ![]() I like that Todoist sends an email with your items for that day every morning. I currently use a bullet journal to track habits and routines so I haven't looked into this either, but wouldn't mind the option in an app. Recurring projects/tasks would be nice, but not a must-have. I think they can all do this with tags/labels. I admittedly haven't explored this much, so any input would be appreciated.Ībility to show tasks by context, i.e. This seems to be possible in Things and OmniFocus, but not Todoist. I noticed that Things and Todoist do this, but OmniFocus doesn't.Ĭapability of dividing projects up into categories, i.e. I don't want to put appointments in as tasks, but it's nice to be able to see my calendar appointments in the Today view.Īutomatically push unfinished items to the current day. Unless I'm missing something, the other two don't have this ability and you have to create a project and then delete the Inbox item.Ībility to sync with my calendar. I like that with OmniFocus, I can just make that idea a project directly. Sometimes I have an idea that is actually a project put into my Inbox. I like being able to promote/demote items to projects/tasks. I love that OmniFocus and Todoist have this. I have an iPhone and iPad, but my computer is Windows based. I need to be able to input/manage things on a PC. I really don't want to keep track of multiple. So far, they all seem to have things I like and don't like, so I'm wondering if someone can maybe see what I think and offer a suggestion to get the best out of ONE app. I started with OmniFocus, then grabbed Todoist, then figured I'd try Things. I recently discovered the GTD world and immediately dove in to trying to find the perfect app for it. ![]() |
